I hate math. I hate it. I’m pretty good at the basics, but when I think of postulates and theorems my heart starts to race and my head starts to pound. I think part of that can be attributed to the fact that I had a terrible, T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E, geometry teacher. She was the absolute worst! Talk about failed attempts to multitask! You just can’t plan your wedding and teach sophomores geometry at the same time. It doesn’t work!
I can’t blame my disgust with math and inability to do “fast math” on just my teachers though. I actually had some pretty awesome math teachers. My mind is just not wired to think in numbers, plus I abhor graphs. They just look like part of a foreign language to me! It turns out that what I am really good at doing when it comes to math is learning it just long enough to pass the test. I’ll absorb every word and every lesson right up until test time. Then I just empty it out. It turns out that is a really big problem when you consider most math skills on built right on top of one another.
It turns out that I do a lot of accounting work at my current job. What a shocker it was to find myself in such a position. I never thought I, of all people, would have a job that required that I work with numbers. That just proves that everyone was right; I’ll have to use math for the rest of my life. Darn.
